BizTech College’s Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant program is a part of the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) formerly the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT).
The MLPAO represents the interests of Medical Laboratory Professionals in Ontario with government, regulatory bodies, educational institutions, health care professions and other stakeholders. The College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) is the regulatory body for Medical Laboratory Technologists in Ontario.
Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant Diploma at Biztech College
Our Medical Laboratory Technician program will help you gain in-depth knowledge in the following areas:
- Medical terminology and human body organization
- Clinical laboratory science
- Phlebotomy together with hematology
- ECG circulatory and respiratory system
- Vital signs, First aid, and CPR
- Medical microbiology
- Urinary system and urinalysis
- Anatomical pathology and cytology
- Overview of the reproductive system
Serving the purpose of a smooth transition into the workforce, clinical placement is a critical part of your medical lab technician training.

During your placement, you will have the opportunity to foster meaningful connections with potential employers, which can serve you well as you search for medical lab technician jobs upon graduation.
Reflecting the rules and regulations set out by the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO), our curriculum is designed to prepare you to take the certification exam upon graduation.
After successful completion of the MLPAO (formerly known as OSMT) exam, you will, therefore, be certified to work in a medical laboratory assistant/technician within Ontario.
Our state-of-the-art medical labs offer you the opportunity to apply the concepts learnt in the classroom. Stimulated learning allows our students to outperform on-the-job.
BizTech College offers unique healthcare programs such as Primary Care Paramedic, Cardiovascular Sonography Technologist and Diagnostic Medical Sonography, which means you will be learning in a vibrant environment.
Students looking to enroll in our Medical Laboratory Technician program must first meet the following requirements:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
OR
- Mature Student Status (18 years of age or older)
AND
- Successful completion of Entry Assessment Test
- Successful Personal Interview
Additionally, students need to have the following prior to the start of the program:
- Clean criminal record and vulnerable sector screening checks
- Immunization record as per the program requirement
