What do ECG professionals do?

An electrocardiogram professional performs an ECG by attaching electrodes to a patient and then pulling switches on an ECG machine to trace electrical impulses transmitted by the heart.

As an ECG certified professional, you may fulfill some or all of the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for the tests.
  • Run a diagnostic test on patients.
  • Perform stress tests and monitor patients.
  • Administer Holter monitoring tests.

ECG professionals should expect to perform heavy lifting as they move patients and equipment. The typical work ranges from 35-40 hours per week, but they might be on call or required at odd times.

Additionally, you will also learn how to check and record patient vital signs such as temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
