Career Goals – 3 Simple Ways to Achieve Them

Feb 8, 2019 | BizTalk

Regardless of the state of your current professional life, career goals setting for the future is always a good idea. So then, planning and writing down goals will help you optimize your time and efforts. Additionally, you will gain clarity on what you are aiming for and how much you want to achieve.
You could be someone looking for a career change. Or a student who has just graduated. Or an immigrant who is planning to land or has landed in Canada. Whatever your present situation, benchmarking outcomes will help you anticipate and plan accordingly for your future.

Here are a few tips to plan for and achieve your big career goals:

Continuing Education

In Canada, continuing education involves courses that let you develop your knowledge and skills in a specific area. Continuing education courses are offered to adults in the community by local school boards, colleges, and universities. Moreover, these courses can focus on everything from healthcare to IT to business and more.

Some schools may offer certificate programs, but usually, the focus of continuing education is to develop a specific area of interest depending on your career goals.

If you already have a post-secondary accreditation, you may take continuing education courses to upgrade your skill-set. This is especially if the program of study will make you more valuable to the organization.
Some continuing education courses offer a degree, diploma or certificate at the end of the individual course. Additionally, you can complete a course series for a degree, certificate or diploma.

Second Career as an Option

If you are laid off or looking for a new career, the Ontario Government has developed Second Career, a useful government program that will help you get back to work.

You may qualify for up to $28 000, or more in some cases, to pay for tuition and expenses such as books, living expenses, help caring for dependents, travel & transportation, disability supports, and other living and training costs. Those who qualify may have some or all of these costs covered within the Second Career program.

In order to find out if you qualify for Second Career or any other government funding, you can visit an Employment Ontario assessment centre for an assessment interview. Click here to find careers that may qualify for second career funding in Ontario.

Private Career Colleges for Value-Added Career Training

Private career colleges focus exclusively on preparing students for employment in a specific trade or occupation.

There are many private career colleges (PCCs) and institutes in Ontario. Often, the scheduling is flexible so that you can take courses and work at the same time. Some of these schools let you take courses by distance education, where you study on the internet or by mail.

In conclusion, your ability to quickly adapt to change and a keen focus on continuous learning will be the key to the future and best way to acheive your career goals.
